On the Live Abundantly Podcast today, Jacquelene Hayes is speaking with Jessica Rudolph. I am so excited for her to share her story with us, as well as, all about what she does with My Very Own Blanket. So make sure that you’re tuning in to hear how she’s using this nonprofit to help children in foster care!
Jessica is the CEO and Founder of My Very Own Blanket. They are a nonprofit organization dedicated to comforting children in foster care by giving them a handmade blanket to call their own and take with them wherever they go. She is celebrating 20 years of being the founder of My Very Own Blanket. She believes God gave her the idea to come up with this organization – but she also believes that God knew she would be “foolish enough to continue it for his Glory, as the CEO for this long.”
The idea started when she was a stay at home mom with her 3 babies (Yes, 3 babies under 3 years old!) and after she got started on it, it sort of took off. She was sitting there while her children were trying to fall asleep, knitting a blanket and all of the sudden she was thinking “who could I knit this blanket for?” She knew that the blanket would be great for a child in foster care.
“If we all do just a little bit, then together we can do a lot.”
“All children should be loved, they should have a blanket, they should have something to hang on to that’s their very own when they go through different places.”
“It’s kind of like their first permanency put back in their life when they go into the foster care system.”
“When we can’t be there with the child as they’re moving from place to place, your blanket can be.”
“I just needed to step out of my way and say ‘okay, God. You take over.’”
“Be still and know that He is.”
“In this world where there are way too many unfinished projects, this is something you can do and you can finish in about 40 minutes.”
